The Final Manipulation: Fixed, Mixed, and Bizarre-o-fied

This collection is called, "Fixed, Mixed, and Bizarre-o-fied."  It is called that because I fixed some pictures, mixed others, and then I made some just plain weird.  Most of these pictures carry an "out of this world" kind of feeling.  The main techniques I used were color adjustment, and the scissor select.  I used a lot of other tools, but those were the main ones.  I did have some large challenges but the biggest one was coming up with ideas of what to do.

Before

On this one I used the Healing tool almost exclusively.  It has a happy feeling to it because of the smile and the bright background.  I took this in my living room.

Fixer Upper

Before

On this I only adjusted the color.  I don't know where this was taken, it is just a picture that I like a lot.

Wolf in Purple Clothing

Before

This is the same as "Wolf in Purple Clothing."  All I did was adjust the color and I don't know who made it.  This has a weird feeling.

Serpent Nebula

On this one I pasted the picture of the moon that I took in my front yard onto this picture I found.  Then I changed the colors.  This has a bizarre beauty to it and has a peaceful feeling.

Moonrise

I used an altered version of my moon picture with these two other pictures.  I copied the moon and the lava onto the panther and then cropped it.  This has a scary feeling.

Demon Cat

Before

The penguin picture was taken in my room and the tree picture was taken in the mountains near my home.  I copied the penguin into the picture and adjusted the color.

This one took a really long time and a lot of layers.  I copied the silhouette of the eagle to a new picture, copied the lava on top of the bird, erased the excess, smudged a bit here and then, and then pasted it onto my moon picture.

For this one I copied my brother into this rain forest picture and then selected his jacket and changed its color.  I took the picture of my brother in my living room.

For this one I cropped out most of the tiger and removed the majority of its color.  What was left I made blue and pasted on top of the moon which I made the same color.

This one was a lot of fun.  I scissor selected my brother's hair and made it red.  Then I copied it, flipped it, and pasted it onto his chin.  I used the clone and smudge tools to touch it up a bit.  I took this in my living room.

For this I used my lighting picture.  I turned it 90 degrees, adjusted the color, and on some of these I used circle select and various other tools to get the effect I wanted.

Piano Repair

I used one of my leading lines pictures for this project.  I adjusted the color and saturation.  I also touched up a couple spots with the clone brush.

Gimp Copying

For this project I used a failed candid picture and one of my angle pictures.  I copied in part of the angle picture using the scissors to select the part that I wanted.  Then I had to use the perspective adjustment tool to make it look like he wasn't leaning back.  This is how it turned out.

Munchin'

I call this photo "Munchin'" and I took it in my living room as my brother walked down the hall eating a piece of toast.  I think this really captures his personality because he is always eating.  He is constantly walking into the kitchen to grab a handful of carrots or some other snack before walking back down the hall to his room.

This picture is called "Munchin' 2" which I think fits pretty well because he's eating two pieces of toast.  This also displays his snacking nature.

Staring

I call this picture "Staring" because my sister is always coming inside somebody's bubble to stare at what they are doing.  She loves people and is very curious and those two combine frequently so that she ends up staring intently at whatever anyone else is doing.

Always Busy

I took this in my neighbors flower garden.  I call this picture Always Busy.  I was trying to get a good black and white flower picture when this bee landed in this flower.  I hurried to take a picture of it and didn't think to slow my shutter speed at all or this one would have had a bit of blurring from movement.

Squirrelly

I call this one Squirrelly.  This squirrel moved into our backyard just as winter was getting started and we've seen him once in a while ever since then.  A few days ago we found him eating the rope we keep in one of our trees so we can swing on it.  He was nice enough to pose for me so you can't really see his movement.

Still Life

Pasaka

This is my still life photo.  I call it Pasaka.  Pasaka is the Swahili word for Easter and these colors just kind of remind me of that holiday.  I took this in my neighbors flower garden.  It can be qualified as a still life because there is no movement and nothing in that moves by itself.

Landscapes and Portra-scape

I took all of these at the top of North Ogden Pass about 5 miles from my home.

Between Earth and Sky

I think this does a good job of showing a landscape because it has a large depth of field, shows stuff in the foreground, and the horizon in the background isn't to fuzzy.

Timberline

 I thought that shooting through the trees and catching the mountains, sky, and horizon looked pretty cool.

Wiseman on the Mountain

This is a picture of me.  I used a tripod and the self-timer again.  I think I did a pretty decent job with it.  The lighting is pretty good, the background not to distracting, and my skin color is mostly even.

I call this picture "Exit Artemis."  I cheated a little by asking my Mom if she would let me use her brand new, fancy camera that would let me adjust the shutter speed and aperture.  She was really nice and said yes.  This uses good lighting because the moon is not to bright or to dim and there are no other distracting lights.

With a little editing I created this picture that I call "Eyes of Artemis."

Shady Security

Shady Security

I call this picture, "Shady Security."  I used a tripod and self-timer to take a picture of me holding a cap gun standing in front of a window.  This picture is horribly backlit and you can barely make out any details.  There is also no light coming from the foreground create this dark, shady character holding a gun.  I could fix this picture by either using a flash, or by having a light to the camera's right so I have light coming from the back left and front right to converge on the subject.

All of these picture were taken of the mountains less than 5 miles from my home.  I was standing in the middle of my street to get these pictures.

Shy but Pretty

I call this picture, "Shy but Pretty."  I took it at 6:48 a.m.  I call it "Shy but Pretty" because the sun is just starting to lighten the sky.  The darkness is beginning to fade, the clouds are blushing and the sun is slowly on her way.

Embrace the World

I call this picture, "Embrace the World."  I call it that because it seems like the warm and happy sun is giving the cold, sad world a hug.  It just seems like a very encouraging picture to me.  I took this picture at 7:47 a.m.

Coming Out of Hiding

I call this one, "Coming Out of Hiding."  It seems to me that the shadows are melting and sliding off to the right.  I took this picture at 10:22 a.m.
